MASQUERADE
I decided I was going to do a series without colours, just black and white and greys.
But I was soon mesmerised by the incredible sumptuousness of the Venetian masks, and the colours came back.
I used mixed media as well, collage, feathers, fresh frangipani flowers, beads ... and gold leaf!
The Mask ... mysterious and sensuel ... another classic subject matter to continue my exploration of human feelings and performance.
The exhibition Masquerade was part of the Festival of Mosman. Masks have always been part of festivals and ceremonies.
But is a mask just an ornament? or a form of disguise? or a shield of protection?
